- US Federal Income Tax Return — The fee for expatriate tax return preparation is $349, including all schedules and forms. This fee includes the schedules and forms that are required to be filed with your expatriate tax return.

- State Tax Return — Your accountant will identify whether or not you need to file a State Tax Return. The fee for these preparations is $129 per State Return.

- Foreign Bank Account Reporting — If you are a current Greenback customer and have one or several financial accounts in foreign banks whose value was USD $10,000 or more during any point of the tax year, we can prepare your form TD F 90-22, commonly referred to as the FBAR form. Our rates are $67 for up to 5 accounts, $117 for up to 10 accounts, $157 for up to 15 accounts, and $187 for up to 20 accounts.
Our fees are all-inclusive. Federal Income Tax Preparations include all of the forms and schedules that must be included with your tax return. If you have a specific situation where your return is more complex, do not hesitate to contact us to see whether these forms are included (don’t be surprised if they are!).
- Once you confirm that you want to get started with us, we will send you a copy of our tax questionnaire, and one of our accountants will contact you via email to introduce himself or herself, answer any preliminary questions and learn a bit more about your particular situation.
- Your accountant will also set up a secure folder for you in our online system, which you can use to securely transfer your tax documents to us. If you have any questions about any of the documents needed or the tax questionnaire, please don’t hesitate to email your accountant for clarifications.
- Once you’ve had a chance to share any relevant documents and forms with your accountant, he or she will get started on preparing your return.
- Once your return is prepared, your accountant will send you a “client review” file (essentially, a draft return). You will also receive an invoice at this time, as well. Payment is due five days after your draft return and invoice is provided to you. We accept Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
Once you are satisfied with the return and have made payment, we will then upload your final return to your secure data room. We will also e-file your return at this time, if we are able to do so. We will keep your tax return in the secure data room, where you will have access to it, and your accountant will still be available to answer any additional questions you may have about your return or future tax planning needs.
How can you guarantee satisfaction?
We stand behind our services 100% at Greenback Expat Tax Services. Your final return will not be uploaded until you have confirmed that you are satisfied with the draft return provided by your accountant. As an additional measure of comfort, we offer a 100% money-back guarantee in the event that you are unsatisfied with your return preparation.

How long does it take to prepare a return?
While the amount of time varies depending on complexity, we can generally turn around a US expat tax return five business days after all the information has been provided to your accountant and any follow-up questions have been answered. That being said, if you need a quicker turnaround, we are happy to expedite your return to meet your deadlines.
Note that the quicker you provide us with the necessary information, the quicker we can get started on your return and make this your most hassle-free US tax year yet!
What information do you need from me to prepare the return?
As you can imagine, the information required to complete your tax return is standard across all accountants. We have tried to differentiate ourselves by making the system we use to capture this data as simple for you to follow as possible. At the heart of this, we have made two assumptions about you:
- You are not an accountant,
- You have better things to do with your time than calculate the miscellaneous information the IRS requires.
We will ask you to either upload or mail us copies of your relevant tax documents showing things like your income, the tax you paid the local government (i.e., UK, Germany, etc.), the interest you earned, any capital gains/losses you made, and any mortgage interest you paid and so on.
We will not ask you to do any of the calculations or to rummage through your documents to find information. Instead, we ask you to upload your documents and to let our accountants do the work for you.
Will Greenback help in the event of an audit?
In a word, yes! In the unlikely event that you get audited, your accountant will be on hand to talk with the IRS about any questions they have regarding your US expat taxes, how the return was prepared or how we calculated the numbers.
Do you offer consultation or tax planning services?
Expatriate tax advice can be hard to come by, and for those living abroad, it is important to have on hand. We offer tax planning and advice services in order to help answer your questions and help you make smart tax planning decisions while living abroad. If you have a specific question on personal or business tax returns, our accountants are on hand to offer consultations on these matters. The fee for these services is $59 for 30 minutes. No matter where you are, we can arrange a consultation via phone or Skype, whichever you prefer.
