Established in 2008Meet the Founders
After being frustrated and overwhelmed with their own expat tax needs, Carrie and David decided to build a service that could meet the needs of US expats — a tax preparation company whose accountants were at the forefront of expertise in US expat taxes, that was simple and easy to work with, and treated customers fairly and respectfully.
Carrie is a long-term expat, travel lover and seasoned business professional who believes that filing taxes doesn’t have to be a grueling process. Originally from New York, Carrie was raised in Mexico City, and has since lived in Barcelona, London, Montevideo, Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires and now Bali. Carrie has a BA from Columbia University and an MBA from International Business School IESE, followed by 15+ years in marketing and general management. Carrie and her husband and co-founder David started Greenback after struggling to find a firm to do their US taxes as Americans living in the UK.
Carrie now spends her days ensuring that Greenback offers exactly what US expats need: easy-to-use, professional American tax services that delight our customers.
David is an Enrolled Agent, an MBA, and an experienced finance professional and entrepreneur. Having grown up in Brooklyn, New York, with 5 siblings, it wasn’t until David’s second trip out of the US (an exchange program in Belgium) when David caught the travel bug. Since then, David has lived all over the world. It was while he lived in London that the idea for Greenback Expat Tax Services came to be. Year after year, David and Carrie found that filing their expat taxes was a nightmare: expensive accountants who treated them like a number, US CPAs who were well-meaning, but not up to date on the rules as they apply to expats, and lots of forms and calculations…
David’s sole mission now is to find the best expat accountants across the world and recruit them to the Greenback Expat Tax Services team.

The A-TeamMeet the Accountants
Each of our accountants brings a wealth of proven professional experience to the team. We know that what our customers value most is having expat-expert accountants in charge of their US expat taxes, and we rise above the competition in that regard, hands down.

Her expertise extends to state and foreign income tax and residency issues and all expat tax filings, including FBAR. She has been both an expat and a small business owner, so she understands the challenges that come with living and working abroad.
Although she and her Australian husband currently live in the US, she has lived all over the world, including in Australia, Mainland China, England and France. I graduated in 2001 with an accounting degree. Since then, I took the long road to my current career with detours as a Logistics Coordinator with Outward Bound and as a Park Ranger with the South Carolina State Park Service. I have been preparing tax returns since 2005 and obtained my Enrolled Agent credentials in 2013. In 2014, my wife and I moved to Germany and I began working in the expat community preparing tax returns. Although my German is still horrible, I can work my way through a German tax return with amazing speed.
My wife is a teacher and although we live in the city, we prefer a quiet peaceful life in the woods. Whenever vacation comes around, we try to travel to the mountains or coast and look for small isolated places that can bring us a sense of peace. I enjoy snowboarding, hiking, camping and using our “way too big” RV to find the next adventure.

The coin took them through 10 states before finally bringing them home again. In his spare time, Austin enjoys PC gaming, movies, driving his two muscle cars (a Mustang and a Camaro), going on adventures, and spending time with Jennifer and their feisty cat, Ana.

Trisha spent most of her adulthood bouncing from one professional hat to another. Once she landed in the tax world, she worked as a supervised preparer for several years in a boutique CPA firm specializing in international taxation before eventually seeking the Enrolled Agent designation to better serve her clientele. She has worked closely with expatriate clients from a variety of backgrounds: young professionals in TEFL programs, active jet setters running multinational corporations, career retirees wanting nothing more than some well-deserved peace of mind and everyone in between. While she worked with citizens, resident and nonresident aliens, and businesses of all structures and sizes on the domestic front, her general specializations lay in estate and gift tax and nonprofit reporting.
She enjoys navigating the often-challenging waters of international tax law and seeks a historical and theoretical approach to explicating the apparent madness. This approach, combined with her previous professional identities as a teacher and aspiring canon lawyer, serves her well in her role as Greenback’s Compliance and Training Manager, which she fills in addition to her accounting role. As the Compliance and Training Manager, Trisha makes sure that the accounting team stays ahead of the ever-changing curve in its international tax expertise, and consistently delivers the worry-free, expert tax returns that Greenback’s clients expect and deserve.
In her free time, Trisha continues to indulge the Classicist in her by learning and teaching dead languages (mostly Latin and Biblical Hebrew), listening to and singing Renaissance polyphony and tinkering with computer hardware.
