DBA GREENBACK EXPAT TAX SERVICES (together with its subsidiaries, divisions, and brands, collectively, the “Company”) operates and provides the website at www.greenbacktaxservices.com and other subdomains that include greenbacktaxservices.com (collectively known as the “Site”) and all related materials and tax preparation, consultations, tax return, and other online services provided by the Company (together with the Site, the “Services”). Visitors and any users of the Services are referred to as “user,” “you,” and “your,” and the Company is also referred to as “we,” “us,” and “our.”
We are committed to protecting your privacy online. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect through the Services. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your personal information. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy, without modification, and acknowledge reading it.
This Privacy Policy describes and applies exclusively to personal information (as defined below) that we collect on or in connection with the Services, and in texts, emails, and other electronic communications sent through or in connection with the Services. Except as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy or as required by applicable law, this Privacy Policy does not apply to information that is collected by any app, website, or third party beyond the Services. If you visit any other app, website, or third party that we mention or link to, be sure to review its privacy policy before providing it with any information, as that privacy policy will apply to your interactions with that app, website, or third party.
Except as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy, “personal information” is information that identifies, relates to, describes, is capable of being associated with, or otherwise could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with you. “Personal information” does not include information which is generally not considered “personal information” under applicable law, is otherwise exempted under applicable law, such as information which is publicly available or subject to special data privacy laws and/or regulations, or information not otherwise considered “personal information” under applicable law.

- Payment information, such as billing address, credit card information, bank account and routing number, and other financial information, specifically for the purpose of paying taxes due, facilitating refunds, or completing certain other transactions.
- Commercial information, such as a record of your orders, purchase history, and shopping behavior and preferences.
- IP address and other unique device identifiers.
- Geographical information.
- Personal information provided by you through your interactions with us in social media.
- Internet or other electronic network activity information, such as information about your internet connection and the equipment you use to access the Services; IP address, approximate location, and other unique device identifiers; your activity on the Services; and other usage details collected through your use of the Services.
- Any other personal information that you may submit to us, such as personal information included on uploaded documents such as a Form W-2, Form 1099, or foreign equivalents, or that may be included in the information provided to us by third parties.
- Inferences drawn from any of the above.
- Information that is about you but does not individually identify you, such as information which has been de-identified or aggregated in a manner where it can no longer be used to identify you.
- Any other information, including personal information, which you disclose or share.
When you purchase our Services, we will receive and store certain personal information that you provide to us in the registration process and throughout your use of the Services, whether through the Services or by email. This information may include your name, address, phone number, social security number, credit card information, birth date, gender, occupation, marital status, email address, and other similar personal or preference data that you provide to us. Whether or not you provide such information to us is completely your own choice. However, you understand that due to the nature of our Services, we cannot provide our Services to you if you do not provide us with such information. As permitted by law, we process this data to supply our Services to you, including by automated means. The legal basis for processing is your consent and your affirmative action to engage us to provide the Services.
Section 7216 of the Internal Revenue Code specifically governs the use and disclosure of information provided for, or in connection with, the preparation of a tax return and requires that we obtain your consent for the use and disclosure of such information. Such information may also be considered nonpublic personal information, as defined by and protected under the GLBA. Some states may also have additional laws and regulations related to the use and disclosure of the same information. We use such information only in accordance with those applicable laws and regulations to prepare and assist in preparing your tax return; to provide services associated with preparing your tax return; to allow tax professionals to assist you with questions or tax preparation; to operate our tax preparation business as necessary (e.g., for internal administrative purposes); to obtain, manage, or market services in connection with the preparation of tax returns; and to provide you with other products and services you specifically request or consent to, or as otherwise required or permitted under applicable law.
As permitted by law, we may process personal information, including name, email, geographical information, personal preferences, and other information you provide us for the purpose of participating in surveys, subscribing to our email notifications, free content, and/or newsletters, as well as communication data that you send to us either through email, social media, or other posting and/or communication methods. We process this data for the purposes of communicating with you, to deliver relevant website content, and for the purposes of sending you marketing content and/or emails, including by automated means. The legal basis for this process is consent or our legitimate interests, which is to grow our business and keep records which may be needed to pursue or defend a legal action.
As permitted by law, we and our third-party service providers, such as Google, may use cookies and other technologies to automatically collect and store certain types of information about your use of the Services. This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, geographical location, page views, website navigation paths, clickstream information, and frequency and/or pattern of your use of the Services. This information is collected through our analytics tracking systems and is used to analyze the use of the Services, to deliver relevant content and advertising, and understand our users. We also may use these technologies to collect information about your online activities over time and across third-party websites or other online services (behavioral tracking). We may use third-party cookies and other third-party tracking technologies from third-party analytics providers to help us market, troubleshoot, and provide information about our products and services.
For example, we use Google Analytics, which uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze information about use of the Services and report on traffic, usage, and trends. We may use Google Analytics to recognize you and link the devices you use when you visit the Services on your browser or mobile device, login to your account on the Services, or otherwise engage with us. We may share a unique identifier, like a user ID or hashed email address, with Google to facilitate the service. Google Analytics allows us to better understand how our users interact with the Services and to tailor our advertisements and content to you. We may also utilize certain forms of display advertising and other advanced features through Google Analytics, such as Remarketing with Google Analytics, Google Display Network Impression Reporting, the DoubleClick Campaign Manager Integration, and Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting. These features enable us to use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick advertising cookie) or other third-party cookies together to inform, optimize, and display ads based on your past visits to the Services. As permitted by law, we may also use the personal information that we collect about you or that you provide to us:
- To validate your identity and help us maintain the safety, security, and integrity of the Services, as well as our other products, services, databases, and technology assets.
- To carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, such as to prepare your tax returns.
- For testing, research, analysis, and development, including to understand our audience, develop and improve new products and services, and to develop and improve the Services and the Company.
- To respond to law enforcement requests and, as required by applicable law, court order, or governmental regulations.
- To evaluate, negotiate, or conduct a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, other sale, or transfer of some or all of our assets, or the negotiation thereof, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which personal information held by us about our users and customers is among the assets transferred.
- To fulfill any other purpose for which you provide it.
- For any other purpose with your consent.
Third-Party Use of Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies
Some content or applications, including some advertisements, on the Services are served by third parties, including advertisers, ad networks and servers, content providers, and social media or other application providers. These third parties may use cookies, alone or in conjunction with web beacons or other tracking technologies, to collect information about you when you use the Services. The information they collect may be associated with your personal information or they may collect information, including personal information, about your online activities over time and across different websites and other online services. We do not control these third parties’ tracking technologies or how they may be used. 3. MARKETING AND ADVERTISING
As permitted by law, the above information may be used to send you marketing communications about the Services or our business or products. The legal basis for this type of processing is either consent or our legitimate interests in growing our business. We may send you such communications at your request and/or if you agreed to receive such communications. You may opt out of such communications at any time through the “unsubscribe” button in each email or by contacting us at help@greenbacktaxservices.com.
Any of the above information may be used to deliver advertisements to you, including through Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, Google Ads, and/or other similar third-party advertisements. We may also use such information to understand the effectiveness of our advertising. The legal basis for this type of processing is our legitimate interest to grow our business through marketing and advertising.
4. DISCLOSING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We disclose your personal information with trusted third parties who provide support in running the Services, as well as those parties and services that help administer the Services, including the Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”), applicable state tax authorities, and our third-party service providers. As permitted by law, we may disclose your information as described herein:
- Subsidiaries and Affiliates. We may disclose personal information to any of our subsidiaries and affiliates.
- Communications with the IRS and State Tax Authorities. We use the personal information you provide for our internal purposes, and for providing you with our Services. This can include processing your personal information; completing IRS and other governmental forms on your behalf using such information; and transmittal of such forms to the IRS, state tax authorities, and other such governmental entities.

- Marketing Providers. We may share certain information with marketing providers that help us target advertisements to individuals who may be interested in learning more about our Services and who help us supplement personal information we already have about you.

We disclose information provided for, or in connection with, the preparation of a tax return only in accordance with applicable laws and regulations to prepare and assist in preparing your tax return; to provide services associated with preparing your tax return; to allow tax professionals to assist you with questions or tax preparation; to operate our tax preparation business (e.g., for internal administrative purposes); to obtain, manage, or market services in connection with the preparation of tax returns; and to provide you with other products and services you specifically request or consent to, or as otherwise required or permitted under applicable law.
As permitted by law, we may also disclose your personal information to fulfill the purpose for which you provide it, for any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information, or otherwise with your consent.
We may use or disclose aggregated information about our users and information that does not identify any individual without restriction.
5. ANTI-SPAM POLICY
We comply with anti-spam laws, including the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003. If you opt-in to receive our newsletter or other marketing communications, the option to unsubscribe from such marketing communications will be included in every email.
6. COOKIES
By accessing or using the Services, you are consenting to the use of the technologies described in our Cookie Policy to collect both personal information and non-personal information and to the storage of information on your device or web browser as described below. 7. PRIVACY CHOICES
We strive to provide you with choices regarding the personal information you provide to us. We have gathered the following mechanisms to provide you with control over your information:

We may not accommodate a request to change information if we believe the change would violate any law or legal requirement or cause that information to be incorrect.
We do not control third parties’ collection or use of your information to serve interest-based advertising. However, these third parties may provide you with ways to choose not to have your information collected or used in this way. You can opt out of receiving targeted ads from members of the Network Advertising Initiative (“NAI”) on the NAI’s website, https://thenai.org/opt-out. Similarly, you can opt out of receiving targeted ads from members of the Digital Advertising Alliance (“DAA”) on the DAA’s website, https://www.privacyrights.info.
8. THIRD-PARTY LINKS
The Services contain links to third-party websites and resources. You acknowledge and agree that we are not responsible or liable for the availability, accuracy, content or policies of third-party websites or resources. Links to such websites or resources do not imply an endorsement by or affiliation with the Company. You acknowledge sole responsibility for and assume all risk arising from your use of any such websites or resources.
9. DATA SECURITY AND BREACH RESPONSE
We strive to protect your information from any unauthorized access, misuse, or disclosure. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of personal and tax information, we have put in place reasonable physical, technical, and administrative procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. We may allow access to your personal information to our employees, contractors, and service providers that need to know such data to perform necessary business services. Personal information will be kept confidential and employees and/or contractors will only have access to it when necessary.
We have taken steps to build and manage a system that you can use with confidence. We use sophisticated encryption and authentication tools to protect the security of the personal information that you share with us. When you upload your private documents to the Services, we will encrypt this information before it travels over the internet using industry standards for secure online transactions.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed to be secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information transmitted in connection with the Services. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures. You acknowledge that the personal information you voluntarily share could be accessed or tampered with by a third party. You agree that we are not responsible for any intercepted information shared through our Services without our knowledge or permission. Additionally, you release us from any and all claims arising out of or related to the use of such intercepted information in any unauthorized manner. You agree to notify us for any breach of security or unauthorized use of your information.
Additionally, you understand that certain areas of the Services, such as comment or review forms, are not considered protected. Any information you disclose in these forms could be intercepted by third parties. You should never transmit any private documents or other personal information to us by email. If you do send information to us by email, you should use password protected files and you should not send the password for such files in the same email. We recommend that you use our secure online upload services that we set up for you when you use our Services.
10. DATA RETENTION AND DESTRUCTION
Personal information that we process for any purpose shall not be kept for longer than is necessary to fulfill its collection purpose or to satisfy a legal or accounting purpose. In addition, Federal law requires that our Company retain, for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), electronically filed tax return data for a period of at least six (6) years. It is our policy that we will generally keep the tax return information you provide for at least six (6) years or longer. In some cases, your data may be anonymized for research purposes and used indefinitely. If your data no longer meets any of the above criteria, personal information will be deleted or otherwise disposed of in a safe and secure manner.
11. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
The Services are hosted on servers located in the United States, and we may also use service providers located inside and outside the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please note that we may transfer information, including personal information, to the United States and other countries, which may not have the same data protection laws as your jurisdiction, and you consent to the transfer of your personal information to, and the storage and further processing of your personal information in, the United States and other countries.

12. CHILDREN’S PRIVACY
The Services are not directed to nor intended for use by anyone under eighteen (18) years old (a “Child” or “Children”). We do not knowingly collect personal information from Children. Children are not authorized to use the Services. If you are a Child, please do not provide any personal information to, on, or through the Services. If we learn we have collected or received personal information from a Child, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a Child, please contact us as provided below.

We reserve the right to review and revise this Privacy Policy from time to time, without prior notice, subject to applicable legal requirements. We recognize that we are responsible for personal information under our control. We have designated our CEO as our privacy official to ensure privacy compliance, including PIPEDA compliance. We will thoroughly investigate any complaints received and try to substantively respond within thirty (30) business days of its receipt. If we need more time, we will inform you of the reason and extension period.
